What is ESF Back to Business (B2B) Project?

Central London Connexions Back to Business is a project for 14-19 year-olds who are at Risk of NEET Programme.  The project is £1.8m funded until March 2014 via the European Social Fund (ESF) and Skills Funding Agency (SFA) on behalf of the Young Person’s Learning Agency.

What is the aim of Back to Business? 

The aim of the ESF Back to Business is to help young people aged 14-19 to stay in education, employment and training (EET).   The project will re-motivate, inspire & equip 1062 young people at risk of NEET back into sustained learning and/or employment en-route to their personal goals with a comprehensive end-to-end personalised programme. 

What are the project outputs?

  • A minimum of 850 will achieve an accredited outcome resulting from personalised programmes of skills development. 
  • 796 young people will be sustained in EET for 1 term or 13 weeks after leaving the project
  • 637 will be in sustained EET for two terms or 26 weeks after leaving the project continue for a further term

Which local authorities are involved?

The project includes 8 boroughs in Central London which are Camden, City of London, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark or Westminster 

Who can join? 

Young people MUST be:-
  • aged 14-19
  • in learning or work including  school, college, apprenticeship programme or training
  • living in Camden, City of London, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark or Westminster*
*if they are living in other local authorities they may be able to join but you will need to check with the ESF Project Manager 

What do you young people get?

  • a named Project Worker who will meet with the young person weekly, carry out an initial assessment and agree an action plan to help them stay in learning or work
  • short accredited courses to gain qualifications in a wide range of areas including Multimedia, Sports, Beauty, Retail, Construction and personal development courses including First Aid, residentials, Goals and Get on Track personal development course with professional athletes
  • work experience and job brokerage matched to the individual
  • hardship funds to help remove barriers to learning or work
  • incentives and rewards including £50 worth of vouchers when a young person stays in EET for one term and another £50 for two terms.

How long will it last?

Around 7 months
