Welcome to the
July 2009

Don’t let the headlines fool you – NEET levels may be going up elsewhere, but they continue to come down in central London. Only slightly, but month by month we have seen a small drop. In June we had 7.9% NEET - 0.3% lower than June 2008.

In reality we saw huge drops in the last 2 years but have plateau-ed for about a year. On top of the excellent hard and creative work by PAs and IYSS colleagues with young people, we need new strategies - particularly for increased flexible entry to FE during the year. Plus the Foundation Learning Tier to better support young people needing lower level programmes, being piloted across the area now.

We have about 80% of year 11s with an offer for September in place, and even more year 12 one-year students – the work on the September Guarantee is paying off, but we need 100% with offers by August to really know that each young person has a way forward.

Thanks again for the part you play.

Chris Heaume,
Chief Executive
